A local and international move – and storage
In 2013 the Hammond family of four, and their two dogs, moved close to Witney in Oxfordshire, just six miles from where they had been living in Charlbury. They had already moved many times in the past and had varying experiences of using different removals companies. When Mrs Hammond had a move date confirmed for this particular move, she began researching local removals companies, requesting quotes and speaking to various contacts.
The House and Carriage Approach
Having spoken to Mrs Hammond on the telephone House & Carriage went to visit her at her house in Charlbury. They discovered that the family had a number of requirements:
A straightforward move from Charlbury to the Witney area
Long-term storage for a number of items
International shipping to take some items to the family’s second home overseas
Insurance for items on the move and in storage
The House & Carriage team were able to provide Mrs Hammond with an accurate quote, having seen the items that needed moving and storing. Although not the cheapest, Mrs Hammond was convinced that House & Carriage were the right company to work on the move for them. She found them very approachable and they were able to organise all her requirements, rather than needing to work with multiple companies for removals, storage and international shipping.
From plan to action
“My main concern with any house move is that something will get damaged or broken,” says Mrs Hammond. “Yet all our items arrived intact – to both houses.” The family even entrusted the House & Carriage team with the keys to the house abroad. The Hammonds were free to move house and settle in without travelling overseas themselves.
An emergency house move for an elderly lady
One year later in 2014 Mrs Hammond called on the services of House & Carriage once again. Her 85-year old mother-in-law needed to move from Yorkshire to be closer to her family, within just two weeks. At short notice House & Carriage were able to organise the move. They transported her belongings down to a new flat and also placed some items in their storage facilities. Two months later they moved the items that were in storage into the new flat so owner and items were reunited!
According to Mrs Hammond: “The new flat was on the first floor and it was a challenge for the House & Carriage team to get some of the larger items up the stairs. They did a great job, and they were fantastic with my mother-in-law who found the situation very stressful at the time. They couldn’t have been nicer with her.”
“An impressive removals service”
Having moved many times in the past Mrs Hammond is able to make comparisons between removals companies and the experiences she has had. “The House & Carriage team are very efficient and pleasant to deal with. The main difference is that they are not too big. You always speak to the same person who is dealing with your move.”
Mrs Hammond goes on to say, “I am most impressed with how clean, tidy and efficient they are – they don’t hang around! I would recommend them to anyone considering using a removals company in Oxfordshire and beyond.”
Words from co-owner Charles Schmidt
According to House & Carriage co-owner Charles Schmidt: “Mrs Hammond has been a loyal client of ours for several years now. Given that she has moved so much in the past it is a testament to our service that we are her first port of call every time the family is on the move. At House & Carriage we always ensure that our customers gets our full attention. We like to think we provide a different, more caring removals service.”
