Mrs Thorpe recently moved from Little Rissington in Oxfordshire to Upper Oddington in Gloucestershire. The family decided to sell their farmhouse in Little Rissington and rent a property in Upper Oddington, until they were able to find a new place to move into.
Removals and storage
The farmhouse was a large family home with a fully furnished outbuilding so the Thorpes had lots of belongings to move. The new rental property in Upper Oddington was not as big as the farmhouse, so the family needed help with both removals and finding somewhere to store the items that wouldn’t fit into their new temporary residence.
Mrs Thorpe searched online for a company that might be able to help with both of these services. She remembered seeing a mailer from House & Carriage and decided to get in touch. “I liked the quality of their marketing and what it represented so I got in touch with them,” she says.
Mrs Thorpe spoke to Company Director Tom who went to visit her at the farmhouse. Tom recommended a two-part move, with items being packed up and taken to storage during the first week. And then items to be moved to Little Rissington being packed up and moved the following week. The entire process was to take four days in total.
Fast moving and professional
Mrs Thorpe liked the idea of Tom’s plan but also sought quotes from competing removals companies. Although the costs were similar to those provided by House & Carriage, she found that Tom and the team provided far more detail around the move. “They seemed more professional and their responses were always very fast moving. We negotiated a little and then set the date for the move with the House & Carriage team.”
The family began to organise which items needed to go into storage and which should be moved to the new home in Upper Oddington. On day one of the move, House & Carriage arrived to pack up the items for storage. They then moved this load to their Oxfordshire-based storage facilities the following day, without a hitch.
An unplanned journey with flexibility
The next week, House & Carriage returned to the farmhouse to pack up and transport the remaining items to the new house. However: “When we arrived at the new property in Upper Oddington and all our items were there we realised there was just too much to fit in,” says Mrs Thorpe. “Thankfully the House & Carriage team were very flexible. Although it wasn’t planned for, they were able to take some of our items back to their storage facilities.”
Mrs Thorpe was very impressed with the House & Carriage team, saying: “They were great – very well coordinated and they asked questions when there was anything they were unsure of. The team were very careful with our fragile items and nothing was broken.” Mrs Thorpe was also impressed with the House & Carriage storage offering. When the family has found a new permanent home, the House & Carriage team will deliver their stored items directly to them.
“I would definitely recommend House & Carriage,” says Mrs Thorpe. “There were absolutely no problems with both removals and storage. It was an equally excellent service and I am more than satisfied with how everything went.”
