Philip and Helen Hunt used to live near Witney in Oxfordshire. However, in 2016, they decided to up sticks and move to Boscastle, a village and fishing port on the north coast of Cornwall.
Immediately at ease
Having seen a House & Carriage van in their village the Hunts decided to call on the team to quote for the move. Director Tom Skelton soon visited the family at their home and went through the details of the move with them. “We immediately felt at ease with Tom,” says Philip. “The emails we received from him were very friendly and he even remembered our dogs’ names.” Although not the cheapest removals quote, the Hunts decided to go ahead with the service from House & Carriage. This was based on the excellent experience they had received from House & Carriage during this time.
Understanding during delays
The family were subsequently very pleased they had decided to employ House & Carriage for this task. The move date kept gradually shifting closer and closer to Christmas and because of this, they needed a team that offered complete flexibility. “We had to let Tom and the team down on a few occasions,” says Philip. “Yet he always had the same friendly attitude and was flexible, understanding and accommodating.” Eventually the completion date was set for two weeks before Christmas, at which point the family needed to pack up and move very quickly. “I doubt any other company could have been this flexible and moved us at such short notice,” says Philip.
Immaculate storage facilities
Due to having to move quickly and at short notice, the move took place over a number of days. Most of the family’s possessions were initially moved into the House & Carriage storage facilities until the company had a spare time slot to complete the move.
On day one, the House & Carriage team packed up the family’s belongings. “In the nicest possible way, they were like locusts and moved around the house, packing up very quickly,” says Philip. The next day they returned to finish the packing and put the boxes into storage. “I went to see the storage facilities,” Philip continues. “They were immaculate and very clean.”
Just in time for Christmas
Just before Christmas, the House & Carriage team made their way down to Boscastle to drop off all the family’s possessions. Thankfully, the company’s vans are small enough to drive safely along Cornwall’s windy and narrow roads, so there were no problems transporting the items at all. One member of the House & Carriage team drove the family’s smart car – which had also previously been in storage – down to the new house. The team soon had all the boxes unpacked and then built furniture such as beds. Before heading back to Oxfordshire following an overnight rest in a local B&B.
“Please pass on my thanks to the team,” says Philip. “I would absolutely recommend them.” In fact, Philip says he has already recommended House & Carriage to others based on them being professional yet fun, and making the move really easy. “They are obviously not just trying to get money out of you like other removals companies out there. All the staff we spoke to, including Rebecca in the office in particular, are all excellent and they really seem to care.”
Philip and the family were extremely pleased to have received their belongings so close to Christmas following an eventful, delayed and then rushed move.
